Hearing Title: “Strengthening Access to Capital for Minority-Owned Small Businesses”
Hearing Purpose: This hearing focused on how to strengthen access to capital for minority-owned small businesses in order to ensure that all communities have the opportunity to create jobs, close the wealth gap, and grow the economy.
Panel: There were two panels. The first panel focused on SBA’s lending programs and the trend of lending to underserved markets, with SBA and SBA lenders as witnesses. The second panel included Johns Hopkins University to discuss its recently publicized report that found some big banks in Baltimore had nearly doubled their deposits over ten years but severely cut back on small-business lending, an advocate for minority contracting, and an expert on venture and equity investing.
